Get to Know: Karinne

Ten-year-old Karinne, a fourth grader at St. Matthew Catholic School, is ALL girl. She is full of sass and can often be found “modeling” or singing and dancing in in front of her mirror, usually to Taylor Swift songs. She likes anything pink and sparkly and has definitely earned her nickname—Pinkalicious. Karinne loves to stay active, as well. She’s a kickball player, ballet dancer, cheerleader, and a four-time Special Olympic medalist in swimming (three gold and one bronze).

Shortly after Karinne was born, her mom Kathryn was touched by the lyrics to a song called “Butterfly” by Martina McBride:

“She's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
Like the purest light in a darkened world
So much hope inside such a lovely girl
You should see her fly, it's almost magical
It makes you want to cry, she's so beautiful”

“Karinne is OUR butterfly,” says Kathryn. “The words to that song beautifully captured Karinne’s strength to fight for her life as a baby and how beautiful she has grown to be since. It’s like the theme song for her life.”
